In the isthmus country, regulations to consider are established by “Sertracen”, the agency responsible for regulating and supervising land traffic and transport. “Sertracen” is known for its vital role in setting driving standards, ensuring that residents and visitors adhere to local regulations. On the ground, the agents of the land transport authority (ATT) are often responsible for traffic regulation. If you enter Panama for the first time as a tourist with a valid driver’s license from your home country, you can use it for 90 days from the date of your entry into the country.
Migration status and obtaining a license:

Often, it is faster and less costly to retake the driving test in Panama. For homologation (Exchange), documents not written in Spanish must be translated and stamped by an authorized interpreter in Panama. Administrative requirements include presenting originals and copies of licenses, passports, certifications, and medical tests.

It’s necessary to understand either Spanish or English to take the exam. In Panama, the license is issued for a period of four years. However, for foreigners with temporary or provisional status, the validity of the license coincides with their residence card. Only those with permanent resident status benefit from the full four-year validity.
